Hello, I am a long time Mac user but new to this forum. Because I don't like unstable OS and App releases I usually trail behind on upgrades. As Apple supports its current OS and the 2 previous versions, I am currently using Mavericks. Unfortunately I did not keep up with and download the different updates to iPhoto.

I had purchased the disk based version of iLife '11 and have version 9.4.3 of iPhoto. When I moved up to Mavericks, I wrongly thought I needed version 9.6.1 of iPhoto. I was able to get this from a local Apple reseller here were I live. However, that version is for Yosemite not Mavericks.

I need version 9.5.1 of iPhoto. Unfortunately the Apple reseller did not have this version. Obviously I can not get it from the Mac App Store or Apple. Can anyone help me with this, please? Do you mean that you went to the Mac App Store and looked for an update to iPhoto and there was none there?

And if so, why can't you go back to the same Apple reseller from whom you got 9.6.1 and ask for 9.5.1? I was under the impression that if you are running Mavericks, you should be able to continue to update Mavericks' versions of Apple apps until Mavericks is no longer supported.Sorry, I should have stated that the Apple reseller did not have this version. As for Mavericks support, I believe it's just for the operating system itself. I checked Apple Support Downloads and they only have version 9.4.3. The App Store itself simply says it's not available, this includes 9.6.1 also, in the US store.

I tried deleting 9.4.3 and reopening the App Store and looked for it again to no avail. Apple itself wants me to upgrade to Photos but I wish to stick with iPhoto for now.

Ok, that information makes it a bit more clear. I am not an iPhoto or Photos user, so I'll defer to those who are to chime in, but normally, if you are running an older, but still supported version of the OS, then Apple apps that are for that version are also supported.

Don't know why you can't.One solution could be to move up to Yosemite, if you have the installer for it. Actually El Cap is pretty good, too, and is an even quicker version Yosemite, IMHO. Actually El Cap is pretty good, too, and is an even quicker version Yosemite, IMHO.Yeah for the most part I've found that Apple does keep apps around for specific versions of their OS's, like Snow Leopard, but there are a few instances like iPhoto where they don't. IPhoto 9.4.3 itself has the ability to check for updates and even tells me that 9.5 is available to update to. However when I click on 'Open Software Update' it redirects me to the App Store and once again I'm told it's not available in the US store.As far as moving up to Yosemite or El Capitan, I think I'll just hang back until Apple comes out with Yellowstone, Shasta, or whatever they decide to call the next OS! I am starting to rethink my position on staying 2 OS iterations back. When I finally upgraded to Mavericks when El Capitan was released, I felt that my Mac seemed snappier.

However, I did just have a 2 TB Seagate hybrid drive installed. This, ironically, replaced a failing replacement Seagate drive for a supposed faulty Seagate drive. It lasted about half as long as the original drive that was still working when I had it replaced!

I only replaced it because it was supposedly part of a defective batch of Seagate hard drives that Apple was replacing for free. Anyway beyond the perception that my Mac seems rejuvenated, I haven't had it lock up coming out of sleep mode or the screen saver.

Also, Safari 9.0.2 is light years ahead of Safari 6.2.8 as far as performance goes. Before the upgrade, I had to periodically restart my Mac to clear the RAM as it's 12 GB would slowly fill up and not clear out after quitting Safari several times.

Also 6.2.8 would take what seemed like forever to load and quite often I would have to reload my open tabs. There again my old hard drive was 1 TB and it was like about 80 GB away from filling up! However after I had the 2 TB hybrid drive installed, I initially reloaded it with the backup I had made from my old hard drive. This of course utilized Mountain Lion and I experienced a lot of the same issues with Mountain Lion on the 1 TB hard drive.When its all said and done though, I think I'll stick with Mavericks for maybe a month or two before I possibly migrate on to Yosemite. With that being said I'd still like to see if I can get a non-torrent version of iPhoto 9.5.1!

No, really you don't. In addition to being illegal, the 9.6.1 version is the one you want.Also, Yosemite is no longer an option. El Capitan only.There's nothing wrong with being a version or two behind the latest version, but it's dangerous to get much beyond that. Apple only supports the last three OS releases with security updates (and other kinds of updates), so that's Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion. I thought Mavericks was a very good release, so that's a good place to be for a little while yet, but still the 9.6.1 update is the one you want.

Downgrading to 9.5.1 will screw you when you do move on (and yes, El Capitan is a big improvement on Mavericks IMO, particularly in the areas you mentioned).If you want iPhoto to keep working for the time being (ie, you want to transition to Photos at your own pace rather than be forced), you want iPhoto 9.6.1.

Am using an OS X Mavericks iPhoto 9.4.3 and trying to install iPhoto 9.5.1 - but when I load up iPhoto 9.4.3, it states that I should update to iPhoto 9.5.1 - I click 'Go to Software Update', am booted to the Mac App Store, then it doesn't show iPhoto 9.5.1 as an available download.I went the route of and deleted the com.apple.storehelper/. but that didn't help. Then I went and deleted iPhoto.app. Now I'm unable to download the app from the Mac App Store (it states 'Newest version of iPhoto is for OS X Yosemite only - want to download the previous version?'

I click yes and am told 'Mac App Store error (null)' and that's it.How should I proceed? I was able to find a downloader for iPhoto 9.4.3 from the Apple Support pages - and am hoping that it will at least let me re-install iPhoto 9.4.3, but getting to iPhoto 9.5.1 would be pretty important right about now.(background story, trying to upgrade library to iPhoto 9.5.1 so I can boot up iPhoto 9.5.1 from another Mac and combine / merge it's iPhoto library and the 9.4.3 iPhoto library - since I'm doing a massive 3 machine 3 iPhoto library merge + duplicate check work for a friend).
